My Open Fruit series leverages the still life genre for its visceral and anthropomorphic potential. Fruit is a food that we consume, and it is a natural expression of stored energy. When we open a fruit at the exact moment of ripeness, we are releasing the kinetic energy that is stored in the fruit as it grows and develops. These images invite the viewer to examine his or her relationship with food, with fruit in particular, and by extension, with all things tender and vulnerable.
